What I did this week - 1/6, 1/8, 1/9
I returned from my holidays refreshed and ready to jump back in to my Honors Project. I thought that I would take advantage of the lack of homework this first week and try to do as much as I could. While the weather kept me from working as long as I could have, I was still able to make a good start.
On Tuesday, I finished with the glass-plate negatives. They are now done, and ready for researchers or curious folks to use them. (For a refresher on what I still needed to do, click here.) Thursday marked the beginning of the next major step in the project: the organizing of the paper materials. This includes CWP's papers, books, pamphlets and periodicals. Originally, there were three boxes full of these kinds of materials, and one of my first steps was to make a list of everything I found inside. On Thursday, I began by organizing the different types of materials. They were originally jumbled inside the boxes, with no real order, so I made an executive decision to impose my own order on the collection. Part of that order will be determined by the types of materials that we have. Here's what it looked like when I finished sorting by type:
The top left box holds pamphlets, or anything that has more than two pages that are attached together. This includes things like programs and advertisements. The top right box is of books. There are two stacks of regular sized hard-back books, and then on the top, you can see an old yearbook from Greenville College, where CWP and his wife Hazel taught for several years. The lower left box is for periodicals, most of which are old issues of the “Proceedings of the Institute of Radio Engineers.” The lower right box is of loose papers. There are many different types of documents in this box, such as newspapers, letters, advertising flyers, blueprints, and handwritten notes.
