What I did this week – 10/14, 10/16

On Tuesday, I went through the CWP materials that I found the week before at the Walls Center. I transcribed another of CWP’s letters and put together a rough timeline of his life. I also looked on the Internet for information on Crosley radios, and the Crosley Musicone in particular, which CWP helped to develop. I had read about CWP getting a US patent for something in connection with the Musicone, and since I had a patent number, I thought I would check the patent office website. It turns out that the number I had was not for the Musicone, but for the basic design of the Crosley radio. I am still looking for more information on CWP’s alleged patent, but so far have not been able to find anything.

There are a lot of antique radio fans that have websites online, and most of them had a picture of a Musicone, or a later model, the Dynacone. We have one of each in the CWP collection.

On Thursday, I continued to look through the boxes, noting the contents and physical condition of each box. I was able to get through the rest of the boxes, but that was because only one of them had papers in it. The rest were full of old radio parts. Since I don’t know anything about old radios (yet!), I am going to save those boxes for later.

These are all the old parts that were in Box #4. I'm sure they all have very specific and necessary functions, but I don't know what they are!

The one thing I found that I recognized was an

old telegraph key. I couldn't help myself; I had

to tap on it a bit!
