What I did this week – 10/7, 10/8, 10/9

This week was when I began my project in earnest. On Tuesday, I spent time in the Walls Advancement Center, finding as much as I could concerning Charles Peterson. I photocopied many letters, newspaper articles, and two or three personal histories. I also transcribed a letter with particularly difficult handwriting. While I did not look too closely at the documents while researching, I learned a lot about Peterson. I intend to look more closely at these documents later.

On Wednesday, Jenifer and I moved the CWP collection. (I’m going to abbreviate Charles W. Peterson as CWP, for ease and convenience, throughout these entries) It had been housed in a storage closet on the third floor of the library, and we brought everything down to a small room next to the Special Collections Room on the second floor of the library. We took several pictures of the collection, and planned the next few weeks.

On Thursday, I began the process of organizing and cataloging the collection. I went through three of the eight boxes, noting the contents of each box and analyzing the physical conditions of the boxes and the materials inside. This took me about three hours, or an hour per box. There are five more boxes to be done, along with a large crate and several loose artifacts.

This is the Peterson Collection as it was stored in the 3rd Floor Closet of the SPU Library.

The large round object on the left is part of a radio system, as are the pieces in the center. The boxes on the right hold all sorts of mysteries, as I have not gone through them yet.

Here  is the Peterson Collection in the 2nd Floor Room of the SPU Library after we moved it. All 8 boxes are in the shelf, and you can see the radio parts on the right, underneath the Study Room sign.

This is the room where all the magic will happen this quarter!
