What I did this week – 11/11, 11/13, 11/14
This week was my first time interviewing for the project. On Tuesday, I did some research on conducting interviews and how to do an oral history. I spent time on Thursday taking more detailed pictures of the radio parts in Boxes 4, 7 and 8. This took about an hour of the time, and I spent the other three continuing to process the glass-plate negatives. I’ve finished about 100 of the 300, which means that I am making good progress. I took an hour at home to write up questions for the interview that I was going to do on Friday.
On Friday, I drove to Warm Beach Senior Community in Stanwood, Washington, and interviewed Dr. Donald Kerlee, who was one of the physics faculty at Seattle Pacific, and a great friend of CWP. I spent about an hour with him and his wife Ivy, asking questions about CWP and Hazel Peterson, and learning some very important things. The interview also gave a personal dimension to the project. I will transcribe the interview, and may add it to the CWP collection later.
This is a picture of Dr. Kerlee from the 1963 Seattle Pacific Yearbook.
I took this picture of the inside of one of the radio parts on Thursday. I thought it was neat that the label had stayed on for so long, and was still readable.
